MyWorkpapers allows you to define parent and subsidiary relationships between your clients, creating a group structure. This is the foundation for sharing workpapers across related audit files within a group.
Adding a Client to a Group
To set up a group, you will link clients together using the Groups tab on the client page.
-
Navigate to the client page for the client you wish to configure.
-
Select the Groups tab.
-
Click the Add Subsidiary button to add a subsidiary to this client.
-
In the modal that appears, search for the client you want to link and select them from the list.
-
The subsidiary will now appear beneath the parent client in the group structure.
Note: A client can be both a parent and a subsidiary. For example, Company B can be a subsidiary of Company A, while also being the parent of Company C. This allows you to build multi-level group structures.
Understanding the Group Hierarchy
Groups are arranged in a tree structure with the following rules:
- A client can have multiple subsidiaries.
- A client can be a subsidiary of one parent while also being a parent to other clients.
- Circular relationships are not permitted. If Company B is a subsidiary of Company A, and Company C is a subsidiary of Company B, then Company A cannot be made a subsidiary of Company C.
Removing a Relationship
To remove a subsidiary relationship, locate the subsidiary under the parent on the Groups tab and click the red X icon next to the client name. This will remove the link between the two clients but will not delete either client.
Viewing the Group Diagram
Once you have linked clients together, a visual diagram of the group structure will display on the Groups tab. This diagram shows all clients in the group and highlights the client you are currently viewing.
- Each client in the diagram is displayed as a clickable link, allowing you to navigate directly to that client’s record.
- Use the arrows on the diagram to collapse or expand sections. When a section is collapsed, the arrow will face right. When expanded, it will face down.
- The diagram supports structures up to 10 levels deep.
Tip: For large groups, collapsing sections you are not working with can make the diagram much easier to navigate.
